Research trials

Our facilities enable world-class research and development in the North of England, benefitting detection rates and improving patient outcomes.

Our work » Research trials

There is an unmet research need in the UK, more specifically in the North of England in provision of imaging for theragnostic clinical trials. A multinational pharmaceutical company has indicated that they are likely to utilise our imaging services for at least 11 oncology centres in the North of England who have therapy facilities but no imaging services that have access to certain radiotracers produced on site (e.g. PSMA). This will not only provide much needed access to patients to novel clinical trials and spur research in the North of England and UK.

The combination of a fixed site PET-CT service coupled to an on-site cyclotron is a proven and successful combination. It is anticipated that the predicted rate of growth of oncology PET-CT will further increase due to the centre's ability to participate in clinical trials work. This facility in Hull will allow close collaboration between clinical and basic science colleagues to develop and pursue a truly translational research programme.

Cancer

Cancer is the leading cause of death in Hull & East Yorkshire. 1 in 3 people will develop Cancer. Cancer survival can be improved by earlier and more accurate detection, which is one of things that the research we fund aims to do.

Heart Disease

Heart Disease is a leading cause of death in the local area. 1 in 4 people will develop Heart Disease. 1 in 5 will die from heart failure. Improving survival requires earlier detection and precise treatment giving patients a chance to change their lifestyle and improve their quality of life.

Dementia

Dementia is an increasingly common disease. Sufferers and their families have to face the consequences every day of their lives. Earlier detection will give better recognition and targeted treatment, making the final years of life more bearable.
