Dr Juozas Domarkas

Lead Translational Radiochemist

Juozas has worked on the MIRC project since 2020 in a joint role between the University of Hull and NHS Trust. He joined the project full time in March 2025 and brings to the MIRC a vast experience from nearly 20 years working with short lived diagnostics and therapeutic radioisotopes. Juozas is a highly talented scientist and is responsible for managing the Translational Research Laboratory where he will take lead on projects which see radiopharmaceuticals transition into clinical studies.

Juozas says

“opening of MIRC is timely and very exiting: it fits perfectly with an increasing availability of radioisotopes and opening of the field to include therapeutic applications. Dual nature of the centre combining clinical production of established tracers and translational research brings immediate benefit to the local population and, at the same time, provides a place for new discoveries”.

In his spare time, Juozas enjoys fantasy, science fiction, and messing around in his home and garden.
