The Daisy Appeal has launched Scan for Life, a major fundraising drive to raise £3 million for a state-of-the-art digital PET-CT scanner at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham. Building on the success of A Mischief of Rats, the campaign introduces three illustrated rat characters to boost awareness and support.
Daisy Rat, a star from the sculpture trail, is joined by Scientist Rat and Scanner Rat. These characters will lead community efforts to highlight the scanner's life-changing impact for patients across Hull, East Yorkshire, and North Lincolnshire.
Everyone is invited to enter a fun public competition to name the new characters. Individuals, schools, community groups, and businesses can submit creative ideas, helping bring the rats to life for supporters of all ages.
Professor Nick StaffordWe’re thrilled to continue the playful spirit of A Mischief of Rats. Help us hit £3m through donations, shares, and sponsorships.
We are looking for great names for both Scanner rat and Scientist rat. Please send your chosen names to daisy@daisyappeal.org.”
The digital PET-CT scanner at the Jack Brignall Centre will deliver faster, precise diagnostics for cancer, heart disease, and dementia. It reduces waiting times and expands NHS access closer to home.
Daisy Appeal’s Business Manager, Karen Hall, adds: "We're immensely grateful to the J F Brignall Charitable Trust for kindly sponsoring Light the Way, beautifully decorated by artist Gill Prendergast for the A Mischief of Rats trail. Donated by Tim and Kate Hazelwood, it now takes pride of place at the Queen's Centre - perfectly kick-starting our Scan for Life campaign.”
100% of the donations received go to fund vital lifesaving research and provision of medical scanning facilities.
Please note all funds are used in full by the charity to further its objectives.
